I am here to blog. To blog about the classroom happenings at NSTS Malta.  And quite honestly I don’t know what to expect. As I stealthily enter classroom number 3 (General English 20 lessons) of the English Language Institute, my eyes fall instantly onto the teacher. This is a man who is clearly enjoying his job. His gesticulations and strong intonations are a sure sign that I should not be missing out.

I scan the room. Five students armed with bottles of water and cola are sitting attentively in their chairs. The vociferous teacher is shooting out English questions like a man on a mission. To be honest I kind of want to take part. It looks like fun.

I myself did not show up empty-handed. My handy mobile phone will be doing some shooting of its own. Photographs these days are very important for blogs. And one must keep up with the times.

Back to the lesson. It’s pair-up time. Students are working in one group of three and one group of two. Their heads are down deep in thought and concentration as Alex (that’s the teacher) is circling them giving approving nods and shakes of the head as he looks at their school work. After the stipulated ten minutes to finish the activity are up Alex asks his students to share their thoughts.

Instantly hands shoot up and it’s time for the eager students to impress their instructor. So engrossed are these kids in their schoolwork that they don’t notice me taking some sneaky pictures (consent forms filled in of course). As a school photographer it’s my job to capture the liveliness or lack thereof in the classroom environment. And I got some pretty nifty pictures.

It was time to leave this lively classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ll try stealing into another classroom next time round. 😉
